How D2X Used Kaiko Indices Benchmarks for Futures Settlement

THE PROBLEM

Aiming to address the growing demand for EU-regulated crypto investments, D2X were looking to launch their Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) futures contracts, and needed a partner who could provide accurate and reliable Benchmarks for settlement in Euros.

This would help lay a strong foundation for institutional investors to confidently gain exposure to crypto assets via a trusted and regulated derivatives offering.

THE solution

After exploring their options, D2X chose to partner with Kaiko Indices to develop custom Benchmarks comprised of a broad range of exchange constituents with competitive levels of volume and liquidity.

Using a robust aggregation methodology combining volume-weighted median and time-weighted average price, these benchmarks discouraged manipulative conduct and pricing anomalies, helping the organization promote the integrity of the settlement price.

To serve the institutional gap, HappyBlock needed a robust and transparent price for settling and valuing cryptoassets in Korean won (KRW). However, calculating a price in the South Korean Markets is not straightforward because there’s often a disparity between South Korean market prices and the rest of the world, known as the “kimchi premium”.
